Nervous System
Key Terms
Cerebrum-The main part of your brain
Spinal Cord-Controls reflexes
Brain Stem-Does involuntary functions
Cerebellum-Keeps balance
Limbic System-Creates emotion
Thalamus-receives messages from sensory receptors throughout the body and then relays the information to the proper region of the cerebrum for further processing.
Hypothalamus-Makes a person hungry, thirsty, tired, etc.
Frontal Lobe-associated with reasoning, planning, parts of speech, movement, emotions, and problem-solving
Parietal Lobe-associated with movement, orientation, recognition, perception of stimuli
Occipital Lobe-Lobe- associated with visual processing
Temporal Lobe-associated with perception and recognition of auditory stimuli, memory, and speech

Nervous System Diseases
multiple sclerosis -loss of insulating layer of muscle fibers
Alzheimer's disease-Disorders that affect memory
